United Nations Office in Ukraine is pleased to inform you about ongoing “Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations” campaign, which is designed to encourage world citizen, including Ukrainians, to raise their voice and tell world leaders what do they think about Millennium Development Goals through a video message on YouTube.
This year, the Citizen Ambassadors contest will take place from 23 June to 31 August 2010 and will be oriented toward the theme of the Millennium Development Goals. The aspiring Citizen Ambassadors will have to express their points of view and to bring their personal experiences and suggestions on how to achieve those goals. The results will be announced during the MDG summit in New York, namely 23 September. This will be the opportunity for the six winners to see their messages being part of the global reflection on the Millennium Goals, before coming in person at the United Nations Headquarters for the UN day, on 23 October 2010.
Call-for-entries videos will be recorded by high-profile celebrities and posted on the UN YouTube channel from 23 June, and calls will be added during the contest. To enter the contest, participants will simply have to reply with their own video messages about the MDGs.
A judging panel will gather soon after the end of the contest to determine the best six video entries and decide who will be the new Citizen Ambassadors. The winners will be invited to the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the 65th UN Day, where they will take a special guided tour, meet the Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and assist as VIPs to the UN Day Concert on 23 October.
The campaign - an initiative of the Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon - seeks to utilize the power of online social networking to raise public awareness about the work of the UN and to engage a new generation of world citizens in the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation.
