22 March 2012 – The UN Office in Kyiv announced the launch of the blog posts competition “Sustainable development: The future we want”. The contest is initiated by the UN Office in Ukraine, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, and in cooperation with Korrespondent.net, PocketBook Ukraine and the singer ALyosha.

The contest starts on the threshold of one of the decade’s most important events – the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio+20”. The Conference will see the world leaders join efforts in designing the pathway for further actions which will favor eradicating poverty around the world, establishing social justice and protecting the environment.

The contestants are offered to explore the issues to be discussed at “Rio+20” and to reflect on their importance for Ukraine. Bloggers are then invited to share their ideas about the shape of the future of Ukraine in 20 years.

Whereas the concept of sustainable development is very complex and can be broken into three constituent parts: environmental, economic and social sustainability, the contestants are offered to reflect on several topics:

  • "My Ukraine +20. Sustainable development in Ukraine"
  • "My city +20. Sustainable development of your city"
  • "Responsible consumption"
  • "Poverty eradication and sustainable development"
  • "Education as a driving force for sustainable development"

Blog posts must contain no more than 1500-2000 words, the text must be original and unpublished before. Original photos and video which develop the topic are welcomed.

The deadline for submission is June 1st, 2012. The award ceremony will take place on June 15th, 2012.

The winners will receive prizes from PocketBook Ukraine:
