12 May 2016 - Some 200 potential contractors and suppliers from a wide range of industries such as design and construction, IT, pharmaceuticals, media and information, research and consulting, were briefed today on how to seize the varied business opportunities offered by partnering with the United Nations.

The workshop, a first of its kind in Ukraine organized by the UN system in Ukraine and hosted by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, focused on modalities, rules and standards applied by UN operations, as well as on technical nuances and steps of the UN's procurement cycle.

Bilateral meetings organised between business and UN agency representatives fund and programme representatives provided further details about specific requirements and rules of the UN agencies.

“Working for national development, the UN system is the most effective when it effectively partners with the government, civil society and the private sector. Today was a brilliant example of getting the private sector on board to achieve a common goal: to support the creation of a strong, effective, accountable country, that responds to the aspirations of the Ukrainian people”, - said Neal Walker, UN Resident Coordinator in his concluding remarks.

Building on the success and high interest for such briefings expressed by business participants, similar workshops will be organized in different cities of Ukraine in the coming months to raise awareness of and maximise the untapped potential of cooperation between Ukrainian businesses and the UN in building tomorrow's Ukraine.
