24 November 2016, Kyiv - FORUM ON YOUTH 2017 “The role of youth in poverty eradication and promoting prosperity in a changing world” that will be held 30-31 January 2017.The Youth Forum brought young leaders from around the world to the UN Headquarters in New York. It is a platform for youth to engage in dialogue with Member States and contribute to policy formulation on global economic, social and environmental issues.

Selection Criteria for Youth Representatives
The ECOSOC Youth Forum will be open to young people and representatives of youth organizations and

Representatives must:
a. Aged between 15 to 29 years old (for participants under the age of 18, please follow relevant child
protection guidelines. Flexibility can be exercised for young people until 35 years old in line with national
definition of youth);
b. Able to communicate in at least one of the six official languages of the United Nations;
c. Represent youth-focused or youth-led organizations, networks or movements and have the ability to
consult with a wider group of young people.

The organizations and networks represented should:
a. Adhere to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the principles and values of the Charter of
the United Nations;
b. Demonstrate a commitment to promoting the priorities of the World Programme of Action for Youth
and the 2030 Agenda;
c. Have internal democratic and transparent processes of leadership, decision-making and consultation;
d. Be independent from Government.
Attention should be paid to a gender and regional balance in the selection of youth representatives. It is
not necessary for organizations and networks represented to have consultative status with ECOSOC.\

Special attention should be paid to representatives and organizations who:
a. Represent marginalized or disadvantaged groups;
b. Have been involved in organizing or participating in national, regional or global thematic consultations
on the post-2015 agenda, on the implementation of SDGs, ICPD Beyond 2014 Global Youth Forum and
other relevant global, regional or national fora on youth;
c. Are members of the UN Major Group on Children and Youth;
d. Are members of UN youth mechanisms or platforms at regional or country levels;
e. Are young leaders from political parties, young unionists, and from youth-led and youth focused
organizations; and
f. Are members of National Youth Councils.
