This is the UN-Habitat response to the active process of urbanization, which will become one of the main trends of the XXI century. The importance of the cities and urban population is growing, as well as development of urban settlements and the spread of urban lifestyle. By 2050, the urban population of the world will increase by 50%

The New Urban Agenda consists of 175 commitments and covers various aspects of the urban life - sustainable urban development, social integration and poverty reduction, ecology, and effective local government institutions.

The program aims to transform the process of urbanization into a source of development that improves and changes people's lives. Implementation of the program means effective: city rules and regulations, urban planning and design, municipal finances, and national urban policies. The program is especially relevant for Ukraine, where the urban population is more than 60% of the whole population.
