2 August 2018, Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Vadym Chernysh met with the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine Osnat Lubrani.

Ms. Osnat Lubrani has recently assumed her duties as the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine. Before joining the UN office in Ukraine, Ms. Osnat Lubrani held the postition of the UN Resident Coordinator and Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in the Republic of Fiji, performing the duties in nine other small developing islands. Ms. Lubrani also worked in Kosovo (UNMIK), the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the USA, Belgium and many other countries.

During the meeting, Mr. Chernysh and Ms. Lubrani discussed the results of cooperation between the United Nations and the Government of Ukraine in restoring peace in the government-controlled territories, and the assistance to the population living in and along temporary-occupied territories and along the contact line in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In addition, an issue of housing for internally displaced persons was discussed. The Minister briefed the UN Resident Coordinator on successful initiatives in implementation experience of Georgia in housing allocation for IDPs using a scoring system and the mechanisms of co-financing from the state and local budgets.

This year the Ministry intends to spend tens of millions of UAH, and this process is already being implemented.

The UN resident coordinator in Ukraine Ms. Lubrani assured that the implementation of the projects of restoring peace for the population residing in the government-controlled territories, and the provision of humanitarian assistance to the population residing in the temporarily-occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions and near the contact line are the priorities for the UN in Ukraine. From his side, the Minister expressed rediness to provide support to new UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine and pledged to continue support from the Ministry in line with the ongoing cooperation.
