GENEVA – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and UNICEF, the UN Children’s Agency, are calling on States and regional organisations to take urgent action to ensure no child is born, or remains, stateless in Europe.

15 February 2019 The UN Migration Agency (IOM) and the European Union will help Belarus and Ukraine make their joint border more secure with a new project aimed to support state border demarcation process, improving the border crossing points infrastructure and strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination between the two countries in line with the principles of Integrated Border Management.

(Kyiv, 13 February 2019) The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Ms. Osnat Lubrani yesterday briefed the UN Member States in New York via a video connection from Kyiv on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine as part of the launch of country’s 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). The Plan aims to reach some 2.3 million people with humanitarian aid on both sides of the “contact line”.

(Kyiv, 31 January 2019): The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Ms. Osnat Lubrani today launched an appeal worth US$162 million to provide humanitarian aid and protection to 2.3 million most vulnerable people in eastern Ukraine in 2019.

Kyiv, 12 December 2018 – The results of the 2018 wave of the UN Social Cohesion and Reconciliation Index for eastern Ukraine (USE) were released today, on 12 December 2018, at The findings show that while inter-group relations are improving, satisfaction with the quality of life has worsened in eastern Ukraine.

(Ukraine, 11 December 2018): On her mission to eastern Ukraine, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Ms. Osnat Lubrani was intent to witness first-hand the suffering of conflict-affected civilians and observe the humanitarian efforts underway on both sides of the “contact line”.

1,400 civil society organizations and 2,186 activists from all regions of Ukraine shared the best innovative ways to drive reforms and bring positive changes to their local communities at the seventh largest national  Civil Society Development Forum in Kyiv, organized by the national CSO Isar Ednannia. For six years in a row, UNDP is co-funding and co-organizing the Forum.

The Merezhka (Network) shelter for women who have suffered from domestic violence in Cherkasy, in central Ukraine, has been uninhabitable in the cold winter months. Now the city council has allocated UAH 856,168 (about $31,000) for the renovation of its roof and installation of a heating system. What is more, Cherkasy Oblast Administration will support the women by providing social adaptation services.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign which takes place each year. It commences on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

As temperatures drop to well below zero in eastern Ukraine, millions of people urgently need humanitarian support as a result of an on-going active conflict, which increasingly is forgotten and seems to have fallen off the international radar, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Ms. Osnat Lubrani, said today in Geneva.

On September 4, 2018, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court of Ukraine upheld a landmark judgement to satisfy the claims of an internally displaced person from Donetsk region whose pension has been suspended since April 2017. The Ukrainian NGO “Right to Protection,” UNHCR’s partner organization, provided legal representation to the pensioner.
