KYIV, 7 September 2015 – Today, UNICEF and the LEGO Foundation launched a local initiative to provide conflict-affected children in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine with high quality play materials to continue their development and learning. Children in 48 schools, 62 kindergartens, and 10 Community Protection Centres located in government-controlled areas will benefit from this initiative.

KYIV, 4 September 2015 – UNICEF and WHO call on parents in Ukraine to vaccinate their children, as efforts are urgently underway to distribute vaccines to all areas of the country, following a confirmed polio outbreak. Polio is an infectious disease that can cause paralysis or even death.

GENEVA,Switzerland, 1 September 2015 (UNHCR) - This past weekend, UNHCR managed to deliver humanitarian aid to Horlivka and nearby areas in Eastern Ukraine not-controlled by the Government for the first time in several weeks. Thirteen UNHCR trucks carrying 260 metric tons of shelter materials and basic relief items travelled with support from WFP and partners and delivered reinforced plastic sheets, timber, plywood, roofing sheets, cement and other construction materials for acute and medium repairs, as well as basic relief items.

On 28 August 2015, the WHO Regional Office for Europe was notified of two confirmed cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1 (cVDPV1) in Ukraine.

24 August 2015, Kramatorsk, Ukraine – A total of 7,000 three-week-old chickens are being distributed this week to small farms in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Provision of the birds is the latest move by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to help vulnerable households whose livelihoods have been compromised by the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

19 August 2015 - After the start of the conflict in the east of the country in 2014, the Government and people of Ukraine have been facing a humanitarian crisis on a scale that the country has never experienced. Overall, 5 million Ukrainians have been affected and need humanitarian assistance. This is equivalent to about 11 per cent of the whole population of the country - or almost one in nine.

GENEVA/KYIV, 17 August 2015 – The first consignment of vital antiretroviral medications for adults and children living with HIV in conflict-affected zones in eastern Ukraine arrived by air in Ukraine today.  Further consignments will follow shortly.

5 August 2015 – The United Nations System organizations - UNDP, UNICEF and WHO, in response to the request from the Government and the Parliament of Ukraine, will assist in procuring medicines for seven National Programmes, as well as in provision of capacity support for setting up a national system of medicine procurement in the next few years.

KYIV, 5 August 2015 – Only 1 in 4 internally displaced infants under the age of six months is exclusively breastfed in Ukraine. UNICEF and WFP today called on those involved in the emergency response in eastern Ukraine to stop distribution of infant formula and promote breastfeeding to avoid unnecessary illness and deaths of children.

28 July 2015 - Supported by its donors, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is expanding its cash assistance programmes to serve the needs of the most vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine.

26 July 2015 - Over one thousand children from the small town of Uman in Cherkassy region of Ukraine will stay warm this fall and winter thanks to bioenergy. Two straw-fired biomass boilers have been installed in the local kindergarten and school saving over 700,000 Hryvnya (roughly 30,000 USD) on heating bills annually.

Kharkiv, 9 July 2015 - United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine (UNFPA) on request of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, delivered a truck of humanitarian aid to Kharkiv regional perinatal center - UNFPA RH Kits for provision of obstetrics-gynecology care for women among the internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups of women.

1 July 2015 - The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said today it will scale up its emergency operation in eastern Ukraine to provide 500,000 conflict-affected people in the region with food assistance until the end of the year.
